Organising a baby shower
What is a baby shower?
A baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending birth of a child by presenting gifts to the mum-to-be at a party together with family and friends.
Can anyone throw a baby shower?
Usually someone who’s not a relative throws the shower to avoid giving the impression that the family is asking for presents. Practically speaking, this means anyone can throw a shower except for the mum-to-be and dad-to-be.
The best advice is to go with what feels right. Any relative, close friend or work colleague should feel perfectly happy about planning your baby shower.
When is the best time to have the baby shower?
Baby showers can be held at any time, though they are most commonly held in the early stages of the third trimester. This is to ensure that the mum-to-be is past the ‘danger’ period of early pregnancy but yet is not too far along in her pregnancy risking going into labour and be unavailable to her own celebration.
Additionally, expectant mums want to be able to enjoy the day. The later the baby shower is held, the higher are the chances of feeling physically uncomfortable and less able to get into the swing of the event. Baby showers held in the early weeks of the third trimester will allow the mum-to-be to make the most out of her special day and look nicely pregnant at the same time.
Where should the baby shower be held?
You need to consider the number of people invited for the baby shower before deciding where the celebration will be taking place. Tea time events have become increasingly popular, and these may be easily held at local restaurants or even hotels. Otherwise, there my be instances where the person organising the shower decides to host the party at their private residence. There are no rules, whatever is convenient for the person planning the party and the mum-to-be should be fine to other guest.
What should we do at the baby shower?
Baby showers usually are not complete without some fun or silly games to play, so this may be a good option to keep the guests entertained. Guessing games tend to be popular at baby showers as most people enjoy the thrill of finding out if they guessed right. No matter how different your guests tastes’ may be, these games are an ideal way to get them all involved.
Of course a party would not be the same without delicious things to nibble on. Finger food items are ideal for such events, however, you want your food and menu to reflect the respective time of day.
Last but not least, it is important to allocate time for the expectant mum to open her gifts. Typical gifts would include, blankets, clothing, toys and other items which are useful to you once the baby is born. A very popular gift nowadays is the baby diaper cake and to make one, diapers and other typical baby supplies are arranged to look like a tiered wedding cake.
